Event Description
McCreary County Extension is excited to announce that we are offering a Kentucky Extension Master Gardeners training program in McCreary County! The Kentucky Extension Master Gardener Program (KEMG) is affiliated with the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. The program is active in several Kentucky counties, and recruits and trains volunteers to assist county Extension agents in delivering horticulture education in their counties. If you are passionate about all things gardening and wish to share that with other people, consider signing up! To become a certified Master Gardener, trainees must complete an application (including back-ground check), attend educational classes, pass an exam, and complete 40 hours of approved volunteer service. To maintain certification, Master Gardeners must complete 20 hours of approved volunteer service and 10 hours of continuing education annually.
This program will cover topics such as plant ID, propagation, soils & fertility, plant pathology, entomology, pesticides/pesticide safety, and more. All classes will be taught by a University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension professional or Kentucky Extension Master Gardener and will include the most up-to-date research. This will be a hybrid program, with monthly in-person classes offered during the day and an online class option for those who cannot attend in-person. There will be a $50 one-time fee which includes Master Gardener curriculum and class materials. Application and registration due January 20th, 2023.
